The dog you always wanted when you were a kid
So... remember when you were little, and you begged your mom and dad for a puppy? One who would play with you, snuggle with you, let you dress him up and take him for walks—basically just be a living, breathing stuffed animal? Well, you missed out, ’cause we here at Pet Groomerie have met the dog of your childhood dreams.
His name is Teddy, and as you can see from his mug-shot, he basically is one: a cuddly little teddy bear of a Maltese-toy poodle mix. (Though his owners say he looks more like a cross between a teddy bear and an Ewok, and we’re inclined to agree. Seriously, just put a hood and cape on him and you’re straight-up Jedi.)
We had the joy of giving Teddy his very first grooming recently, and let’s just say, if you think he looks cute and fluffy now, you should have seen him fresh from the blow-dryer. Anyway, we asked his owners to tell us more about him (and if perhaps we might clone him…)
How did you come to be owned by Teddy?
Well, we have two daughters, ages 3 and 6. Our then-five year-old basically asked us every day for a year if she could have a dog. When a friend of a friend mentioned they had puppies to sell this summer, it seemed like the timing was right. We visited Teddy and his littermates frequently when they were teeny-tiny, but it wasn’t until our daughter’s 6th birthday that Teddy was ready to leave his mom and come home with us. Let’s just say that was an epic day in our daughter’s life.
What is Teddy like?
He is the best dog. He is so great with children—he basically is a living stuffed animal. He is happy being held all day, being pushed in a stroller like a doll, being played with, cuddled. He has the sweetest, most easygoing disposition.
If Teddy had a theme song, what would it be?
Definitely “You’ve Got a Friend” by James Taylor and Carole King. He's a mix of happy-go-lucky, laid-back and mellow, just like the song.
What are some of Teddy’s “favorites”?
His absolute favorite thing is when the girls come home from school and he gets to run and play with them outside. He loves them so much. His second favorite thing is sleeping. He loves to run and play but he's somewhat of a lazy dog and trying to get him to go for a walk can be a challenge. If he doesn't want to, he just plants his bum down and looks at us like, "Um, no thanks”-- and stares longingly at our front door.
What’s the story with this photo of Teddy?
We walked into the room and found him this way—he had somehow gotten our daughter’s play stethoscope on and seemed quite pleased with himself, as you can see from the smirk on his face.
Last question: Can we have him??
Um, no thanks. [stares longingly at the door…]
Seriously, y’all – does this dog win “childhood fantasy winner” or what? Yep, that’s what we thought. Welcome to the Pet Groomerie family, Teddy!
